Vol. 370 No. 13

Written Answers. - ESF Grant.

270.

asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan was not receiving the full European Social Fund grant while attending the regional technical college in Dundalk.

The position is that under the terms of the European Social Fund aided special training grants scheme, the lower rate of grant is payable to students who could reasonably be expected to travel daily between their home and college and in the case of every student whose normal family residence is within 15 miles of the college at which she is pursuing her course of study.

As there is an adequate public transport service operating between Carrickmacross and Dundalk, the student in question can reasonably be expected to commute daily, and she does not, therefore, qualify for the higher rate of grant.
