Vol. 370 No. 13

Written Answers. - School Transport.

271.

asked the Minister for Education the plans he has to make improvements in the provision of school transport for the children of Kildanogue Lodge, Ballyvera and of Monroe, Frehand, Crough, Knockballinira and Coatenbridge who are being collected at most abnormal hours and spend a lot of time waiting which is having an upsetting effect on the children and on their families and is also quite dangerous; the steps which will be taken urgently to deal with this; and if he will make a statement on the whole question of school transport for the children of Ballybacon school.

I understand that the school in question is Ardfinnan national school, County Tipperary. Some of the children who avail themselves of school transport to this school have a short waiting time at the school either in the morning or in the afternoon. The present arrangements are considered to be adequate in the context of the general operation of the school transport scheme. In the circumstances, it is not considered that any additional expenditure with a view to bringing about an improvement in these arrangements would be warranted.
