280.

asked the Minister for Education the number of children from Liscarrol and Churchtown who are in the Buttevant catchment area, County Cork, but are attending school in Rath Luirc; and if the will make a statement on the matter.

My Department are not in a position to say how many pupils from Liscarrol and Churchtown attend schools in Rath Luirc. According to available information, catchment boundary facilities to the Rath Luirc centre have been requisitioned on behalf of 18 pupils from those localities.

281.

asked the Minister for Education if provision is being made for children from Liscarrol and Churchtown who are in the Buttevant catchment area, County Cork, to take practical subjects such as building construction and engineering in their leaving certificate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

282.

asked the Minister for Education if woodwork to intermediate standard and building construction to leaving certificate standard is available to children in the Buttevant catchment area, County Cork.

283.

asked the Minister for Education if metalwork to intermediate standard and engineering to leaving certificate standard is available to children in the Buttevant catchment area, County Cork.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 281, 282 and 283 together.

Buttevant is an adequate post-primary centre. Woodwork is available in St. Mary's Secondary School and pupils will be enabled to continue the subject to leaving certificate level. Metalwork at junior cycle and engineering at senior cycle are not available in Buttevant centre.

Eligible pupils from the Buttevant catchment area who opt to attend schools outside the area may avail of transport facilities under the normal catchment boundary arrangements.

Liscarrol is in the Kanturk catchment area.
