Vol. 370 No. 13

Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) (Termination) Bill, 1986: Leave to Introduce.

Tairgim:

Go dtabharfar cead Bille a thabhairt isteach dá ngairtear Acht do dhéanamh foráil chun bunchíosanna a fhoireannadh ar mhaithe le leasanna an chirt shóisialta agus le leas an phobail.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to provide for the termination of ground rents in the interests of social justice and in accordance with the exigencies of the common good.

As this is a Private Members' Bill it will go into Private Members' time for First Stage if it is opposed and for Second Stage if it is not opposed. Is the Bill opposed?

No. In accordance with normal practice in the Dáil we are not opposing the Bill at this Stage. That does not, of course, mean that we necessarily agree with it, or even regard it as constitutional.

In accordance with Standing Orders, the Bill will go to Private Members' time for Second Reading.

Agreed and ordered accordingly.

May I ask the Taoiseach whether or not the Government agree with the proposed closure of the Tuam sugar factory and what action he proposes to take on this serious matter?

That is not in order.

This is a serious question.

The Chair is not disputing that fact but I am saying that it does not arise here at this time.

May I raise the matter on the Adjournment?

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
