Vol. 371 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disabled Persons Maintenance Allowance.

175.

asked the Minister for Health if the rate of disabled persons maintenance allowance paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be increased as this is his sole source of income.

The amount of disabled persons maintenance allowance payable in any individual case is a matter for determination by the health board concerned, having regard to all the relevant circumstances in that case.

I have had inquiries made from the South Eastern Health Board in this case and I have been informed that as the person concerned has means other than that received from the disabled persons maintenance allowance, he is not entitled to the full rate of that allowance.

If the applicant is not satisfied with the assessment of means which has been made by the health board, he may write to the programme manager, community care, South Eastern Health Board, Lacken, Dublin Road, Kilkenny and the matter will be reviewed.

asked the Minister for Health when the correct amount of disabled persons maintenance allowance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Louth.

The amount of disabled persons maintenance allowance payable in any individual case is a matter for determination by the health board concerned, having regard to all the relevant circumstances in that case.

I have had inquiries made from the North Eastern Health Board in this case and I have been informed that, as the person concerned has means other than that received from the disabled persons maintenance allowance, the amount of that allowance payable has been fixed at £26.25 per week.

If the applicant is not satisfied with the assessment of means which has been made by the health board, he may write to the Programme Manager, Community Care, North Eastern Health Board, Kells, County Meath and the matter will be reviewed.
