Vol. 371 No. 2

Written Answers. - Louth School.

188.

asked the Minister for Education when she will sanction the provision of an extra classroom at a school (details supplied) in County Louth; if she is aware of the urgent need for this classroom; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Following the grant aiding by my Department of a new school comprising four classrooms and a general purpose room at the national school referred to by the Deputy, the chairman of the board of management applied for aid for the provision of a fifth permanent classroom.

My Department is not satisfied on the basis of projected enrolments that a fifth permanent classroom will be required in the long term. It has, however, offered to grant aid the provision of a prefabricated classroom. My Department has indicated to the school authorities that should they opt to proceed with a proposal which they have had under consideration to provide a permanent classroom, the grant assistance woul be based on the cost of a prefabricated classroom only.
