Appointment of Ministers and Ministers of State.

A Cheann Comhairle, I beg leave to announce, for the information of the Dáil,

(1) that, having informed the President that Dáil Éireann had approved my nomination of Deputies to be members of the Government, the President, on 10 March 1987 appointed them accordingly;

(2) that on the same date I nominated Deputy Brian Lenihan to be the Tánaiste;

(3) that on the same date I assigned the Department of the Gaeltacht to myself and other Departments of State to the other members of the Government as follows:

(4) that, on 10 March 1987 the President appointed John L. Murray, S.C., as Attorney General;

(5) that on the same date the Government appointed the following Deputies to be Ministers of State as follows, with the responsibilities as indicated:

Vincent Brady

Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach, with special responsibility as Government Chief Whip,

Michael Smith

Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry, with special responsibility for Forestry,

Joe Walsh

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, with special responsibility for the food industry,

Séamus Brennan

Minister of State at the Department of Industry and Commerce, with special responsibility for trade and marketing,

Seán McCarthy

Minister of State at the Department of Industry and Commerce, with special responsibility for science and technology

and

Séamus Kirk

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, with special responsibility for horticulture;

and

(6) that on 12 March 1987 the Government appointed the following Deputies to be Ministers of State as follows, with the responsibilities as indicated:

Minister of State at the Department of Defence,

Minister of State at the Department of the Gaeltacht,

Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach, with special responsibility for the co-ordination of Government policy and EC matters,

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, with special responsibility for urban renewal,

Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, with special responsibility for overseas aid,

Terry Leyden

Minister of State at the Department of Health,

Pat the Cope Gallagher

Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry, with special responsibility for marine matters,

Denis Lyons

Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry, with special responsibility for tourism,

Minister of State at the Department of Education, with special responsibility for youth and sport

Minister of State at the Department of Finance; and

(7) that on 19th March 1987, the Government made Orders

(a)transferring the functions of the Minister for the Public Service to the Minister for Finance and transferring the departmental administration with regard to these functions from the Department of the Public Service to the Department of Finance with effect from 19 March 1987; and

(b)altering, with effect from 20 March 1987,

the title of the Minister for the Public Service to the Minister for Tourism and Transport,

the name of the Department of the Public Service to the Department of Tourism and Transport,

the title of the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry to the Minister for the Marine, and

the name of the Department of Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry to the Department of the Marine.
