Vol. 371 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Service Advertisements.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason recent advertisements (details supplied) for positions in the Public Service open to graduates, specify an upper age limit, thus preventing mature students gaining entry to such posts in the Civil Service; and if he will review this position.

The advertisements to which the Deputy refers were for posts as administrative officer, inspector of taxes and third secretary. These grades are recruitment grades for management level and an upper age limit of 30 applied as experience has shown that this provides an adequate and suitable candidature taking account of the nature of the grades involved. Mature students, who may be accepted for matriculation in certain universities at age 24, are not excluded provided they comply with the age limits and other requirements. Age limits for competitions are kept under continuing review.
