Vol. 371 No. 2

Written Answers. - Eligibility for the Reduced Interest Scheme.

39.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will have his interest subsidy payments approved in view of the recent information submitted by his lending agency.

Eligibility for the reduced interest scheme was confined to farmers in severe financial difficulty. It was also a condition that a financial reconstruction plan would be drawn up showing a return to viability by the end of the scheme.

For the person mentioned the financial reconstruction plan showed that viability could be attained without the aid of the scheme; consequently he was deemed not to be in severe financial difficulty as defined by the scheme. Accordingly the refund to the lending agency concerned of the portion of the cost of the interest rebate given to him was refused by my Department. Additional information has now been submitted by the lending agency and, following consideration, a decision will be conveyed to the agency shortly.
