Vol. 371 No. 6

Written Answers. - Opening of Skellig Rock.

34.

asked the Minister for Finance when Skellig Rock will be re-opened to visitors.

Skellig Michael was closed to the public throughout 1986 by the owners, the Commissioners of Irish Lights, in the interest of safety while the Commissioners of Public Works were carrying out a scheme of archaeological investigation and conservation works. These works were completed on schedule in 1986. While it will be necessary in May 1987 to check the stabilisation work done to a retaining wall which supports a small oratory and terrace, it is not envisaged that it will be necessary to seek an extension of the closure order in 1987.
