Vol. 371 No. 6

Written Answers. - Leixlip (Kildare) Garda Station.

37.

asked the Minister for Justice the present position with regard to a Garda station in Leixlip, County Kildare; whether the study group set up by the Garda authorities has reported on reorganisation and deployment of manpower in the north Kildare area; and the action he proposes to take having regard to the obvious need for a Garda station in Leixlip.

The Garda authorities inform me that a review which has been carried out of the policing arrangements for the north Kildare area does not indicate a need for a Garda station in Leixlip, but suggests that consideration be given to the establishment of a police office or "clinic" where gardaí would be in attendance for certain hours on a number of days per week so as to be readily contactable by the local community. The feasibility of implementing an arrangement of this nature is at present being considered by the Garda authorities.

As regards the North Kildare area generally, the review does not recommend any major organisational changes but recommendations made for improved patrolling arrangements are being considered by the Garda authorities.
