Vol. 371 No. 6

Written Answers. - FEOGA Aid.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will restore FEOGA aid to farmers anxious to update their milk storage facilities, in view of the rationalisation being undertaken by many co-operatives in the country.

Since 1978 grant-aid for the purchase of on-farm milk cooling equipment has been available under EEC measures, funded from the co-responsibility levy, to improve the quality of milk delivered within the Community.

The Commission, who are responsible for allocating the levy proceeds, decided in early 1986 that quality improvement measures should be discontinued after the 1986-87 milk year. This is now the case except in Greece and Italy where the option remains to use moneys from promotion and publicity measures to finance milk quality schemes.
