Vol. 371 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Approvals.

44.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of approvals for community grants made by his predecessor in the constituency of Dublin South-Central; to whom these grants were made payable and the amount paid; the dates of approval in each case; the number of these grants which have been paid; the proposals he has for those organisations who have borrowed money on the basis of these approvals and have commenced work.

The allocation of grants under my Department's amenity grant scheme for 11 projects in the Dublin South Central constituency was notified to the local authorities concerned on 9 March 1987. All allocations under the scheme were withdrawn on 23 March, pending a review of the scheme in the context of the Department's overall Estimates of expenditure for 1987 and the budgetary position generally. No payments were made on foot of the allocations.

Having regard to the fact that the local authorities involved had not notified the grant allocations to the promoters of the various projects up to the time that the grants were withdrawn, the situation referred to in the final part of the question should not arise.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of grants approved by his predecessor for the whole country; the proportion of these approvals in relation to the total of community grants-community associations grants; the number which have been paid; the dates of approval; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the number of grants under my Department's amenity grant scheme. The allocation of grants for 131 projects was notified to local authorities under this scheme on 9 March. These allocations were withdrawn on 23 March, pending a review of the scheme in the context of the Department's overall Estimates of expenditure for 1987 and the budgetary position generally. No payments were made on foot of the allocations.
