Vol. 371 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

103.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will introduce measures to alleviate the financial hardship being caused to housing grant applicants who had entered into contract arrangements prior to formal notification of the grant abolishment by the 27 March 1987; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

161.

asked the Minister for the Environment if any special provision will be made for persons who had entered into contracts prior to the elimination of the house improvements grants scheme on 27 March.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 103 and 161 together. In the case of house improvement grants, applications will be approved in any instance where an inspection had been carried out by 27 March 1987 and the works were found to be eligible.

Applications for the local authority "surrender" grant and for the £2,250 new house grant will be approved in the normal way if the Minister is satisfied that on or before 27 March 1987 applicants had entered into legally binding and irrevocable commitments on foot of a legitimate expectation of receiving a grant.

104.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a person (details supplied) in County Cork, will be paid a house improvement grant.

The grant will be paid within the next few weeks.
