Vol. 371 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

162.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will agree to extend the social employment scheme in order to ensure that people (details supplied) in Dublin 7 who are employed under this scheme can be retained in view of the unique contribution which they are making to the local community and also in view of the particularly serious unemployment problems in the local Cabra area.

The social employment scheme will provide up to 52 weeks employment for about 9,500 persons in 1987. The reemployment of persons who have already completed 52 weeks on the scheme is not permitted because of the limited number of opportunities available under the scheme and the large number of eligible unemployed people. The sponsors may apply to have the projects extended in respect of new participants.
