It is unlikely that a new national school will be built at Castlegregory, County Kerry this year. Tender documentation has been prepared for a proposed new school building, but because of the extent to which my Department's allocation of capital for the national school building programme had already been committed prior to my assuming office, I am not in a position at this stage to say when tenders may be invited for the project. My Department has been in touch with the school authorities about the possibility of expediting the project by providing a number of the new classrooms in order to relieve pressure on the present accommodation, and hopes in the near future to finalise discussion on this proposal.
