My Department is at present in negotiation with the school authorities as to a suitable local contribution towards the cost of the County Wexford national school building project referred to.
My Department has already approved in principle the grant-aiding of this project. It is not my Department's practice to disclose details of grant levels negotiated in individual projects, this information being considered to be confidential as between the school authorities and my Department. It would be a matter in due course for the school authorities to arrange for the successful tenderer for the project to be notified of the award of the contract. I should, however, inform the Deputy that because of the extent to which my Department's 1987 capital allocation for the national school building programme had already been committed prior to my assuming office, I am not in a position to say, at this stage, when a contract can be authorised in this case.
