Vol. 372 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing Finance Agency.

175.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether he intends altering the form of Housing Finance Agency loans; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that certain local authorities are not issuing Housing Finance Agency loan application forms at present because of doubt as to whether the Government intend to continue funding these loans; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following a review of the operations of the Housing Finance Agency by the previous Government, a new publicly funded loan scheme, operated solely by local authorities, was introduced with effect from 1 July 1986. The income-related loans formerly advanced by the agency, through local authorities acting as their agents, were replaced by income-related and convertible loans available directly from local authorities. I have no proposals at present to alter the form of these loans.

I am not aware that application forms for particular categories of loans are unavailable from any local authority. On the question of funding I can assure the Deputy that there is adequate funding available to local authorities to fund the different types of loans they provide.
