Regulations are currently being drafted by my Department which would enable the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána to grant public hire licences in an area subject to the number of licences in the area being determined by the local authority. These regulations will be made shortly.
In addition to the regulations, by-laws or temporary rules may be made by the Commissioner with my consent in order to designate "appointed stands", i.e., ranks at which public hire vehicles may stand for hire. I understand that the Commissioner is considering the question of such by-laws for Naas.
