Vol. 372 No. 8

Written Answers. - Hydro Power Plants.

83.

asked the Minister for Energy in relation to each of the six proposed hydro power plants to be developed in County Kerry (a) the name and address of the promoter, (b) whether planning permission has been obtained, (c) the name of the townland and (d) whether work has commenced.

I assume the Deputy's question is related to my recent statement concerning a submission for EC funding under Council Regulation (EEC) No. 3301/86 for a range of developments in the energy area. Included in this package is the development of small-scale hydro-electricity generating facilities at ten proposed locations, six of which are located in County Kerry. The Kerry sites are on Loughs Duff, Fadda, Coomnacronia, Coomaglaslaw, Garagarry and the Glanmore River. All the facilities will be developed by the Electricity Supply Board.

Before on-site construction work can get underway at any of these locations, it will be necessary for the ESB to satisfactorily deal, in each case, with issues such as environmental impact and the availability of lands and to seek planning permission.
