The Office of the Food Industry is based on a new food division which has been set up within the Department of Agriculture and Food to co-ordinate and promote the development of the food industry. The division will be staffed from within the existing resources of the Department together with additional personnel transferred from the Department of Industry and Commerce.
The division will work in close co-operation with the IDA and the other State agencies to ensure that the resources allocated to the food sector are utilised to achieve the maximum potential for the industry.
In 1986 capital grants approved by the IDA for the food sector amounted to £31 million and a further £17 million was approved by FEOGA.
