Vol. 372 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bloodstock Industry.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the plans, if any, he has for the development of the bloodstock industry in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the publication of the report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Thoroughbred Horse Breeding Industry the views of the various interested bodies concerned with the breeding and racing industries were sought. These are at present being examined and in due course the Minister will submit his proposals on the future of the thoroughbred industry to the Government.

May I take it that the Minister is accepting the recommendations of the commission?

I am not in a position to tell the Deputy that the Minister for Agriculture and Food will accept the recommendations in the report. The report is being considered by him and he is also considering submissions that have been made to him. In due course he will be making certain recommendations to the Government on the subject.

When may we expect a decision on the report in view of the fact that one of its recommendations was that its proposals should be implemented without delay?

I am not in a position to give the Deputy any timescale for the production of this report.
