Vol. 372 No. 10

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) River walls.

90.

asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the serious situation which exists resulting from the collapse of the river walls which is affecting the Drogheda docks; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that other sections of the quays are also in danger of collapse; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Drogheda Harbour Commissioners are statutorily responsible for the maintenance of all structures under their control including the river walls. I understand that in January 1987 the commissioners commenced a pilot project under the social employment scheme whereby a section of the walls in question is being rebuilt. An application from the harbour commissioners for grant assistance for quay reconstruction works has been under consideration by my Department and I expect to be in a position, in the near future, to make a decision on the application.
