Vol. 373 No. 8

Written Answers. - Building Society Regulations.

108.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that certain building societies are attempting to impose new fees in an effort to circumvent the provisions of the recent building society regulations; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

The Working Party on Building Society Legislation which I have established is considering issues arising from the Implementation of the Building Societies Regulations, 1987, including that referred to in the question. I will consider the question of what action, if any, is required in the light of the outcome of the working party's discussions.
