My Department do not have the information requested in respect of 1 June in any year. Returns of overall staff numbers submitted to my Department annually by the local authorities refer to the position at 31 December. The information in the table below sets out, therefore, the position at 31 December 1984 and 31 December 1986. The figures include permanent officers and all servants employed on a wholetime and part-time basis.
