Vol. 375 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

108.

asked the Minister for Labour the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kerry will not be retained on the social employment scheme in Ballybunion.

The social employment scheme (SES) is designed to provide employment for up to 52 weeks. The person in question obtained 52 weeks employment on an SES project during the period June 1985 to June 1986. He was allowed to continue for another 52 weeks on the scheme under a special roll-over agreement in force at that time. His second 52 week period on SES will terminate on 4 December 1987.

The roll-over facility was abolished at the start of 1987 in order to ensure that as many people as possible can obtain employment on the scheme. It is therefore, not possible to retain him on the scheme. If the person in question is still unemployed after a further 52 weeks have elapsed, he will once again become eligible to participate on the scheme.
