Vol. 376 No. 1

Written Answers - Dublin Fire Service.

167.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the proposed redundancies of senior officers within the Dublin Fire Service; and if he has satisfied himself that, as a result, an adequate level of experienced senior staff will continue to be available for the efficient operation of the service.

Local authorities were authorised in mid-October to offer the terms of the Government's voluntary redundancyearly retirement scheme to all grades of staff except key staff or those required to maintain essential services including the fire service. The question of deciding upon applications by the staff to whom the terms are offered is a matter for each local authority with due regard, of course, to whether particular applications can be accepted without adversely affecting the efficient operation of essential services.
