I am aware that there is a demand for residential places for a number of people with a mental handicap.
My Department is currently undertaking a review of mental handicap services to identify the present shortfalls in service provision and to draw up guidelines for the future development of mental handicap services. In addition many of the health boards are also examining their local needs and these will be considered as sympathetically as possible in the light of the resources available and the competing priorities.
