I propose to take Questions Nos. 39 and 180 together.
I am pleased to say that all patients at Jervis Street and St. Laurence's Hospitals were transferred to Beaumont Hospital on Sunday, 29 November 1987. All of the services are now in place in Beaumont Hospital.
Beaumont Hospital Board has entered into discussions with my Department and representatives of the hospital consultants on the building of a private facility to include consulting rooms and in-patient beds. In the interim the board is leasing temporary consulting rooms to the consultants.
While no nurses' residence has been built at Beaumont, it is intended that student nurses will be accommodated in the existing nurses home at St. Laurence's Hospital for the present. This arrangement will be monitored by the hospital board and reviewed at a later stage. The whole question of nurses' residences is being examined by An Bord Altranais.
I have been informed by Beaumont Hospital Board that consultations have taken place with Dublin Bus and Irish Rail to ensure adequate arrangements to have the hospital served by public transport. The Eastern Health Board who administer the Accident and Emergency arrangements has nominated Beaumont Road as the main ambulance access route.
