Maternity allowance is currently payable to all women who satisfy the qualifying conditions, including women in receipt of unmarried mother's allowance for second and subsequent children. Those in receipt of unmarried mother's allowance who also qualify for maternity allowance under the general maternity scheme are currently paid half the personal rate of maternity allowance.
The situation regarding dual payments of this nature is under review.
