Vol. 376 No. 11

Written Answers. - Harbour Development Plans.

71.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he will explain in detail his plans for Clogherhead harbour, County Wexford as they have one beam-trawler and 32 fishing boats but no harbour at present; and regarding the plans which are with his Department, when work is likely to commence and the way in which it will be funded.

I presume the Deputy is referring to Clogherhead, County Louth, where extensive restoration works on the existing pier were completed in September, 1986.

As regards the future development of the harbour, a feasibility study of the harbour area carried out by Louth County Council's consultant engineers has been submitted to my Department. Before a decision can be made on a final development plan a hydraulic model survey will have to be carried out to determine the best construction design for the proposed development. I am hoping that it may be possible to provide the necessary finance for this survey out of the limited funds available to me in 1988.

Until a final plan is settled I cannot say when work is likely to commence on development of the harbour or how it will be funded.
