Vol. 376 No. 11

Written Answers. - County Louth Law Clerk.

88.

asked the Minister for Labour if his Department has investigated the case of a person (details supplied) in County Louth regarding her employment as a law clerk from December 1984 to July 1987; the level of pay received by her; the arrears of payment of wages due to her in accordance with the JLC statutory rates for each of the years concerned; the measures which have been taken by his Department to secure payment of these arrears for the person in question; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The case has been fully investigated by an inspector of my Department. As a result, it has been estimated that, under the provisions of the Law Clerks Employment Regulation Order, arrears of wages amounting to £1,035.43 are due to the employee concerned.

My Department has advised the employer that, unless the appropriate amount of arrears is paid quickly, the case will be referred for consideration of the institution of legal proceedings for payment of the moneys due to the employee in question. As the employer has not yet provided proof of payment, the necessary prosecution papers are now being prepared.
