Vol. 376 No. 11

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

89.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will consider the application of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 for an extension of a further year on the social employment scheme with the unemployment centre (details supplied) in Dublin 5 as the centre found this person to be indispenable; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The social employment scheme provides up to 52 weeks employment for each project participant. Allowing persons who have completed their term of employment on the scheme to continue participating would be unfair to a large number of eligible unemployed people who are anxious to participate and are awaiting vacancies. It is not possible, therefore, to extend the employment of an existing participant.
