asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in sanctioning full time and temporary whole time appointments to Drogheda Vocational Education Committee, County Louth given that the interviews for these posts were held in July 1987 and that the necessary documentation was sent to her Department in August 1987.

The status of teacher appointments made by the vocational education committees in respect of the current school year had to be considered by my Department with reference to the implications of the Government decisions to introduce redeployment and redundancy schemes for post-primary teachers and also to introduce a uniform pupil-teacher ratio of 20:1 for the 1988-89 school year in the post-primary sector.
All teacher appointments submitted for approval by the vocational education committees are at present under consideration in my Department and decisions will be conveyed to the vocational education committees shortly.
