Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - Traffic Counts.

107.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has yet received the results of the traffic counts on roads outside the Phoenix Park, Dublin 15, being carried out to assess the traffic impact at rush hour of the closure of the Whites Gate to the Phoenix Park; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this closure has been an inconvenience to commuters travelling from County Meath to work in Dublin.

Traffic counts on roads in the Castleknock area outside the Phoenix Park are being carried out by Dublin County Council, who are the road authority for that area. The results of these counts have not been received by the Commissioners of Public Works to date. The reason for closing of Whites Gate at peak hours was outlined in my reply to Question No. 78 on 10 November 1987. The effect of the closure can be assessed when the traffic counts and up-to-date accident reports are available. While the traffic measures in the park have given rise to complaints from some commuters they have also been favourably received by many members of the public.
