Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

111.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the Government commitment to have Waterford included in their decentralisation plan, he will make a statement on the progress that has been made towards purchasing a site; the reason a site purchased previously for this purpose was sold; the person or persons to whom it was sold; and the reason for selling.

Negotiations are at present taking place between the Commissioners of Public Works and Waterford Corporation for the acquisition of a site for the decentralised offices. In the decentralisation programme announced in 1980 it was intended that part of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs would be transferred to Waterford and that the offices would be built on a site owned by the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs. That site was not sold; it transferred to Telecom Éireann when that company was set up in 1984.
