asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the annual average prices in pence per litre for each year since 1984, in respect of premium petrol, regular petrol, auto diesel, regular kerosene and gas diesel oil, for: (a) the basic product price; (b) a composite of import price and the Whitegate price including freight and currency variation; (c) the tax excluded wholesale price and (d) the tax excluded retail price.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the tabular statement below. It is, however, subject to the following qualifications.
In the case of kerosene and gas diesel oil the wholesale prices listed are in fact the prices at which these products are generally available.
No monitoring has been carried out on the price of kerosene since the National Prices Commission was disbanded in January 1986 thus the wholesale price is not readily available for 1986 and 1987. The price of kerosene is not subject to the addition of a Whitegate element.
