Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fee Simple of Drogheda Premises.

241.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason sanction has not been given to Drogheda Corporation, County Louth for the sale of the fee simple of a premises (details supplied), which was received by his Department on 27 May, 1987; whether this type of lengthy and unreasonable delay is helpful to Drogheda Corporation in running its affairs; if the policy of his Department is now to re-value every fee simple decision of Drogheda Corporation; if so, the reason an independent valuer should be appointed at substantial cost; if his Department are going to provide officials to carry out valuations for Drogheda Corporation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the Municipal Corporations (Ireland) Act, 1840, the Minister's consent is necessary to the proposed disposal. The established procedure is to consult the Valuation Office for their views as to whether the disposal terms proposed by the local authority are fair and reasonable. The case to which the Deputy refers is the subject of on-going correspondence between the Department, Drogheda Corporation and the Valuation Office and it is hoped to have the matter finalised shortly.
