asked the Minister for Health the number of applicants by category who have made application for the voluntary redundancy scheme in the North Eastern Health Board; when the employment of the applicants concerned will be terminated; which services will be affected; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The following is a list of applicants, by category, who have made application for early retirement — voluntary redundancy in the North Eastern Health Board.

The board will shortly make a decision on which applications they will approve. While it is intended that applications for early retirement should receive favourable consideration, the board will have to have regard to the provision of adequate services and will retain the right to refuse applications from key personnel. However, in such circumstances, my prior approval will be required and I will only allow a refusal where good cause is shown.

At the present stage, it is not possible to give termination dates or to make any statement on services.
