Nineteen cases of AIDS were reported in 1987 under the original definition for diagnosing cases of AIDS. Two further cases of AIDS were reported in December 1987, which conformed with the new definition of AIDS which came into effect on 1 January 1988. The total number of cases reported to date is 35.
