asked the Minister for Education if she will give details, by Vote and by Subhead, of the saving of £24 million in expenditure on non-capital supply services in her group of votes, compared to the Estimates for 1987, announced by the Government in the Exchequer returns for the year 1987.
Written Answers. - Departmental Non-Capital Supply Services.
The following table shows, for each of the five Votes in the Education group of Votes and for each subhead within these votes, the non-capital savings and excesses as compared with the Estimates for 1987, based on provisional outturn figures. The figure of £24 million quoted by the Department of Finance in connection with the Exchequer returns for 1987 was a preliminary estimate of these provisional outturn figures.
The gross saving of £4.13 million, which represents the difference between the level of expenditure provided for and the actual expenditure, amounts to a variation of only 0.35 per cent.
