The latest official figures for manufacturing productivity are set out in the December 1987 edition of the Central Statistics Office publication "Economic Series" and show that in the first quarter of 1987 output per person increased by 3.45 per cent over the same period in 1986. In my view, this rate of increase reflected continued growth in output allied to increasing stability in the numbers employed in manufacturing.
