asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement indicating the action he has taken or proposes to take in relation to the contents of the 1986 report of the Comptroller and Auditor General as they apply specifically to his Department; and in respect of those elements of the report which might still be under review within his Department, when such a process will be completed.

In his report on the 1986 Appropriation Accounts, the Comptroller and Auditor General included three paragraphs on the Industry and Commerce Vote, dealing with the following matters: (1) National Enterprise Agency Ltd/National Development Corporation; (2) Clondalkin Paper Mills; (3) Provision to meet closure costs of Ceimicí Teoranta. These paragraphs were of an informatory nature only and did not call for action by me.
The Deputy is no doubt aware that, on 17 December last, the Dáil ordered that this report be referred to the Public Accounts Committee for examination and report. That Committee's report on the matter will be laid before the Dáil in due course.
