Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - South African Embassy Advertisement.

70.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to an advertisement in the media (details supplied) on behalf of the South African Embassy in London; and if, having regard to the Government's position on sanctions against South Africa, he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen the advertisement in question. While I deplore its presentation, there is no prohibition in Irish Law which would prevent advertisements of this kind being placed in newspapers here.

It is Government policy to encourage and to work towards the opening of a genuine dialogue between the representatives of all communities in South Africa as part of the process leading to the total abolition of apartheid and the emergence in South Africa of a genuine multilateral democratic society.
