Vol. 377 No. 5

Written Answers. - Military Co-operation.

32.

asked the Minister for Foriegn Affairs if he will make a statement giving assurance that he has no intention of participating in a Foreign Ministers' or any other EC meeting at which questions of defence or military co-operation are discussed; and if he will boycott any such meeting if Herr Genscher should seek in the course of his Presidential functions to raise matters which are outside the ambit of the Community Treaties.

Questions of defence or military co-operation fall outside the scope of European Political Co-operation and of the EC Treaties. This is clearly set out in the Single European Act and is acknowledged by all the EC member states. There are no plans for a Ministerial meeting in EPC or for a Council Meeting to discuss these questions.
