Vol. 377 No. 8

Written Answers. - Certificate Examinations Supervision.

41.

asked the Minister for Education the basis on which appointments to the post of superintendent at the certificate examinations is made; and whether applications from persons other than teachers are considered for appointment.

Superintendents at the intermediate and leaving certificate examinations are selected from suitable applicants who are qualified teachers. Preference is given to those applicants who have already discharged the duties of superintendent satisfactorily and the remaining vacancies each year are filled in descending order of age of applicants. Some qualified teachers who are unemployed or in part-time employment are employed as superintendents following interview each year.

The appointment of superintendents for the day vocational certificate examinations is a matter for the appropriate vocational education committee.
