Vol. 377 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rathfarnham (Dublin) National School.

44.

asked the Minister for Education the results of the inspector's report on the condition of the prefabricated building being used by Rathfarnham parish national school in Dublin 14; in particular, whether the building is still safe for use by the school; and when sanction will be given to start building the permanent extension to the school.

On the question as to when sanction will be given to start building the permanent extension to Rathfarnham parish national school, Dublin 14, I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to his question on this subject on 14 October 1987. The position has not changed significantly since then.

The question of the safety of a particular structure on the site of a national school is a matter in the first instance for the board of management of the school, and ultimately for the school's trustees and patron. The latest findings of my Department's inspector were conveyed by letter to the school authorities through their honorary treasurer in January last and these formed the basis of a grant offer, subject to payment of a suitable local contribution, towards the cost of works considered to be necessary on the prefabricated building referred to.
