asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has any proposals to introduce designation for counties of high unemployment in order to be able to allow the IDA to give higher aids of grant aid in such counties as opposed to the present outdated system; when he will have concluded his deliberations arising from previous reports on this matter; and if Wexford will be designated in such a fashion in view of its high unemployment.

I am at present considering what changes, if any, might be appropriate to the system of designating areas for higher level capital grant assistance taking into account the reports prepared by the NESC and ESRI and the changed economic situation including the need to get the best value for Exchequer resources.
Until such time as this examination is concluded, I cannot say whether any changes will be made in the list of designated areas.
