Vol. 377 No. 9

Written Answers. - Interdepartmental Committee on Travelling People.

188.

asked the Minister for Health if he will list the reports of the interdepartmental committee on travelling people; and if he will outline the planned programme of work for this committee during 1988.

The committee to monitor the implementation of Government policy on travelling people which was set up under the aegis of the Minister for Health in September 1984 has issued two reports to date, the first in 1985 and the second in 1986. The committee is currently drafting its third report which is due for presentation to me, as Minister with overall responsibility for the general welfare of travelling people, in the near future.

A Government policy statement in July 1984 announced the extablishment of the committee and set out its terms of reference. The committee was established to monitor the implementation of that policy statement on travellers and the delivery of services generally to travellers in accordance with the programmes set out in the statement. The committee will continue to operate under these terms of reference in 1988.
