Vol. 377 No. 9

Written Answers. - Rathkeale (Limerick) School.

217.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education the plans she has for the erection of a community school in Rathkeale, County Limerick; if the site designated for the proposed school has been acquired by her Department; the number of children the proposed school is envisaged to accommodate; if she will outline the catchment area of the school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is proposed to erect a new community school at Rathkeale, County Limerick, to cater for 500 pupils. A site for this school has been agreed and the necessary arrangements for the acquisition of the site are in hands.

It is envisaged that the new community school will cater for the following primary schools: Croagh N.S., Cappagh N.S., Cool-Cappa N. S., Rathkeale Convent N.S., Rathkeale Boys N.S., Kilfinny N.S., Ahalin N.S., Ballingarry N.S., Ballingarry Convent, Granagh N.S., Kilfinny N.S., and Ahalin N.S. are shared with Croom and Newcastlewest post-primary centres respectively.

It is not possible to say at this stage when construction will commence. The rate at which this project, as with all other capital projects, will proceed will depend on the availability of capital resources and on my Department's other commitments and priorities.
